Michael Compton

Michael has served St. Matthew's as music director since 1983. He was trained as a violinist at Boston University under Gerald Gelbloom of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and studied organ with Canon Musician Howard Don Small at the Cathedral Church of St. Mark in Minneapolis. Under his leadership, the Parish Choir performs standard classical repertoire, jazz and world music at the Sunday morning services. His compositions for the Church include a setting of the Passion, a Celtic Mass, service music in the Chinese style and other liturgical materials. He has performed as a violinist and as a singer with ensembles around the Twin Cities. His interests include antique collecting and photography.
